BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

We welcome all visitors to The Old Dairy Barn and the Tea Rooms.

Godney
is part of the Levels & Moors, deep in the heart of Somerset; an ancient and fragile landscape steeped in history, archaeology and wildlife. It is central to four National Nature Reserves in a wetland area of international importance and is part of the National Cycle Network. Examples of wildlife commonly seen in the area include buzzards, roe deer, lapwings, grey herons, barn owls, egrets, kingfishers, moorhens, swallows, starlings, fieldfair, otters and nesting swans.

To protect this landscape and the village we always encourage visitors to car share, arrive by bicycle, on horseback or walk.

ARRIVAL BY BICYCLE We have racks for up to 12 bikes.

ARRIVAL BY CAR & PARKING

The roads approaching and through the village are single-track with designated passing places. Please drive slowly and always park with consideration for others. Parking at the Tea Rooms is limited so please be especially considerate. Do not leave your car parked at The Tea Rooms when we are closed or after you have left. Avoid blocking the narrow roads and any entrances, or damaging the roadside banks.

DISABLED ACCESS: Three parking spaces are available and may be booked in advance for disabled visitors. The garden is easily accessible and we have a ramp into the entrance to the Tea Rooms with double opening doors. Assistance is always available.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT Public transport to and from the village, including 16 seat community minibuses and the Dial-a-Ride Scheme is available thorugh the Mendip Community Bus Service supported by Mendip District Council, Somerset County Council and numerous parishes.

We 'launched' our the Godney Village Map as part of the Village Footpath Project on Saturday 15th March 2008 at the Home Made Cakes and Coffee morning at the Tea Rooms. In spite of awful weather we were heavily laden with heavenly cakes and about 40 people turned up.

Big thanks to everyone for contributing - for surveying the 23 footpaths, bridleways and rights of way in the parish, for making and buying cakes and generally for supporting this village project.
